Chinese New Year in NYC

Sunday we made the trip down to NYC to see the Chinese New Year parade down in Chinatown. I have been excited to go back to the city for this, during my last trip to the city I stopped by Saks just as they were setting up for the celebration.

I love the Chinese red with the golden yellow, such a strong color combination.

We stationed ourselves on Mott St. and fought our way as close as we couls to the front. The parade was fun and the crowd was popping confetti fireworks the whole time! The ground was literally covered with melted snow and glitter.

Andrew is such a big fan of Chinese food so it was the perfect time to stop for some noodles. We found this small but very good noodle house and grabbed some steam dumplings to go with our meal.

We stopped for some bubble team at Chatime. Now if you’ve never had bubblr tea you must try it! It can be a fruity drink (flavor of you choice) with pearls, which are basicallly jelly candy at the bottom. They give you this really big straw so everything from the bottom comes up and you sip. It’s really quite a treat and the bubble tea from Chatime had coconut jelly! My favorite!!!

We ended up at the Chelsea Market for a drink before heading back to Grand Central. Now if you are visiting NYC the Chelsea Market is a must, you could spend your entire day there. Spend a little time outside the large walk patio, a place that takes you away from the big city into this sureal location where you can relax under the sun and amungst the greenery. Then go down into the market and get a lobster lunch steamed right there just for you. End the day with a little bit of shopping around through a high end flea market and a drink at Tippers.
